Bumps and rolls: a readiness conversation
Before practice, ask your coach to select one foundation appropriate for you.
Also called: back bump · forward roll · receiving · breakfall
Source foundation
PPW’s first curriculum page includes several rolls and bumps as foundation topics.
Study drill
Before practice, ask your coach to select one foundation appropriate for you. Observe their demonstration and repeat back the key cue. After supervised practice, record the correction and the criterion for moving on. This entry does not teach landing mechanics.
This is an editorial observation exercise based on the source, not a drill claimed to have been published by that school.
Check your understanding
Can you explain what the coach is looking for, and when you should stop and reset?
Pitfall to discuss
A list of move names is not a teaching progression. Do not use a hard floor, bed, or backyard as a substitute for a supervised training setting.
Training log prompt
Write one sentence each: what you were trying to understand, what the coach corrected, and what you will revisit next session. Let your coach set any physical repetitions.
